Krill

KRILL FOREVER KRILL FOREVER KRILL FOREVER

Krill was a punk / post punk / DIY / fucking awesome band formed in 2010 and ending in 2015 with the band members as follows: Jonah Furman - Vocals / bass, Aaron Ratoff - Guitar, and Luke Pyenson - Drums.

I can't tell you how much I love and admire this band, these guys did DIY the right way, making music that is meaningful and thought provoking through ear blasting music that hits you in your chest, they also donated to multiple non profits throughout the band's lifetime and are advocates for equality and it shows through their lyrics as well as their actions.

these guys unfortunately broke up in 2015 as said above but they are still Boston legends and have a huge cult following surrounding them. I can't remember off the top of my head too much info about the members besides the obvious one that Jonah is the younger brother of Ezra Furman (yes the one you're thinking of), Ezra Furman of Ezra Furman and the Harpoons which is another phenomenal band I most likely won't be covering on this blog. Luke Pyenson is now the drummer of Frankie Cosmos which is notable and also cool.

below I'm including Krill's Discography as well as a spotify link to their new band "Knot" which shares the same members, with the exception of Luke.

Enjoy! Especially Lucky Leaves which is my fav album by them; and don't forget ....

The Male Gaze (PH)

They wear girl scout outfits when they perform, How cool is that?!!?

I don't know much about this band as they aren't very active in this project (more on that later) and have only ever officially released this split with P-iple; which I cannot find anything on them either so I consider this a possible two for one discog? The reason why I'm not listing P-iple on the title is because I know they have a couple of independent songs away from this split but I'm unsure of their entire discog, so for the sake of neatness consider this a TMG discog with a bonus

I'm not quit sure where to start when talking about this band so I think I'll just throw out some fun facts and random information The Male Gaze (TMG, not to be confused with the garage band Male Gaze) is a band from Manila, Philippines that is fronted by Mich Dulce and while that name might sound familiar for her more media heavy projects like being a fashion designer and also being a contestant on the celebrity version of the Pinoy big brother ; she has also been a member of previous riot grrl, feminist inspired bands such as "Death by Tampon" (love that name) and "Us - 2, Evil - 0".

If you couldn't tell already this band is heavily heavily inspired by other feminist, DIY, groups that have come before them such as Le Tigre, Bikini Kill, Bratmobile and Sleater-Kinney ; so if you're a fan of those bands or of the feminist, garage punk genre in general I highly recommend this band; another noteworthy member is Maria Reodica who is in the bands "The Buildings" (also very good band, different genre completely might add them later) and "Brain Twins". They love poking jabs at societal norms and give a big middle fingers in the face of those who are against rights for all and universal equality, I'm including a short interview done with CNN Philippines which is a recommended watch if you want to know a little more about them or their band's ideology; only about 3 minutes long so give it a listen

For your listening pleasure, The Male Gaze / P-iple

2. Commander Salamander
3. The Male Gaze - Someday
4. P-iPLE - Oh, My Goodness!
5. P-iPLE - Don't Lie , Stage Girl
6. P-iPLE - Frankensteiner

Dazey and The Scouts

"Dazey and the Scouts started off as nothing more than an ephemeral live set phenomenon. Whispers of their performative glory wafted amidst Boston punks’ cigarette smoke; far off-cries of F***, Marry, Kill were heard emanating from a nearby basement. In answering the studio-dweller’s inquiry as to who this unapologetically third-wave feminist four piece was and what they sounded like.

austin corona - drums
lea jaffe - vocals, guitar
otto klammer - vocals, bass
brennan wedl - vocals, guitar" - LastFM

I got into these guys sometime around 2018 if I remember right, they were exactly what I needed, punk / garage sounds and vocals plus lyrics that don't take themselves too seriously; lyrically they remind me of some music you make with your friends to pass the time; kinda like Rozwell kid imo but I know that isn't even close to describe them.

I don't know much about them as they made an album and left almost right after (in typical DIY fashion), the only things I do know are Austin (drums) was in a Santa Cruz, Ca band called "Subpar" (small world) and is making lofi music under the name "Lilacs", as for the other members they all have either solo projects or full band projects with sporadic releases, I might add their solo projects later but I just wanted to get this post out ASAP

I hope to have these guys perform soon again live, FUCK 2020 WE WANT HOUSE SHOWS!
